A Day in the Life of 5 Week Old Puppies
"....despite the amount of times we've observed these little ones at this age, it's always a new experience!"
At approximately 5 weeks of age, the pups have already begun to develop their own unique personalities! At this point in their young lives, we begin to see distinct reactions to stimuli. We carefully take note of their behaviors as in which pup is the boldest, the most playful or curious or a combination of several traits and we are then able to make informed decisions in determining which pups are best suited to certain lifestyles. This time period is critical as they still look to their Mom for sustenance, warmth and guidance but soon, they will slowly learn to live together without Mom in constant attendance, will rely more on their human counterparts and on each other, eat on their own and finally, they will begin to separate from one another as the cycle continues!
We here at Cady Falls realize how important the next few weeks are as it relates to their development, both mentally and physically. We monitor these little ones closely and work with them in various ways, such as socialization with other animals, humans, other places and even car rides to get them used to travel. And also, depending upon the time of year and the weather conditions, we take them to the field and introduce them to "Birds 101" as well as give them a basic introduction to water. This manner of creating a positive beginning afield goes a long way to help their new owners continue on with their gun dog training, etc. And, in summation, we truly believe that our method of exposing pups to various "people, places and things" has created a well rounded pup that is ready to bond with his or her new family! As always, we are here for you for the life of your puppy and everything from simple questions to more complex issues, guidance on many different topics, training and more is always just a phone call away. There is never a charge for these services because when each pup comes into this world we take lifetime responsibility for their well being.
